A week ago, as I may have mentioned, I joined a band in Luxembourg. I met a musician from Germany who is also studying in Luxembourg who has a great ear for guitar, records music, and is a very talented vocal percussionist. He selected myself, two guitarists (one from Italy, one from the Ukraine), one male vocalist (from Spain), and another female vocalist (from Germany) as the bands initial members. Last night the six of us met at Johannes apartment and began our first practice together. I was astounded by how great all of our voices and instruments blended. The sound we create is so effortless but enchanting to listen to, especially due to the fact each member is from a different country.
Yesterday we began working on the following songs:
Hit the Road Jack -Ray Charles
Ain't No Sunshine -Bill Withers
Bad Moon Rising -Creedence Clearwater Revival
Where Did You Sleep Last Night -Nirvana
We enjoyed yesterday's session so much that we decided to meet again today. Sadly only 4 of us could make it, but it was equally enjoyable. We began practice by singing Hit the Road Jack and Ain't No Sunshine to warm up then began to start working on a remix of the Pursuit of Happiness. I am amazed by how quickly every person picks up every song.
Reflecting upon my experiences with these five individuals over the past two days, I feel an incredible sense of gratitude. I am half way across the world from my home, yet I have found a group of people who value music as much as I do. I feel at home making beautiful noise with them. Each of the band members are so talented. I look forward to performing with them soon and bring more music to peoples lives.
