This morning I embarked on my first backpacking adventure of the semester. Today there is a MUDEC organized wine tasting day trip in Trier, Germany. Then 7 friends and I are staying in Trier, Germany for the night and catching a bus in the morning to meet three additional friends in Frankfurt, Germany.

This morning I woke up at 10 am to catch the bus to the Differdange train station where I took the train to Luxembourg city. I managed to squeeze in a coffee, paid 1.1 euro for the restroom and hopped on the MUDEC bus to Trier.

The drive over was about and hour and it consisted of large Wind mills and tiny houses surrounded by green rolling hills stretching across the rest of the land

Upon our arrival in Trier we congregated to the Porta Nigra ruins, it reminded me much of the collegium. We then went ice skating right next to the city center and shopped around Triers extensive streets of shops. We met back at the bus to head over to the Mosel wine region of Trier for a wine tasting.

The man who led the wine tastings name is George he had some of the best charisma I have seen, and perhaps a bit too much wine tasting himself prior to our arrival. However, the vineyard tour was enchanting. For this specific region the Riesling grapes are grown on a steep incline which made for a very picturesque view arriving at the vineyard at sunset.

Following the tour of the grape juicing, fermenting, and bottling rooms we collected into a traditional German decorated restaurant/wine tasting room. There were multiple large rectangular booths with ornate wine glasses, bread, cheese and candles set on each of the tables. The room at huge dark beams across the ceiling and a very light contrasting wall paint. The first glass was the most dry and my favorite. The second glass was a dry/sweet blend. the third was so sweet it almost tasted like Inniskillin ice wine from Canada. And finally, the last glass was a very light red. It tasted very similar to sparking grape juice.

After the wine tasting, we were encouraged to purchase a bottle to take with us, so I obviously had to. I bought my favorite the ____. Our exuberant group filed back on the bus, with warm stomaches and happy thoughts, to head back to Trier for the tours conclusion. Upon our arrival at the the Trier central station, my group embarked on the next phase of our adventure: locating our hostel. After going the wrong direction twice we finally found it after twenty five minutes. I was pleasantly surprised by its cleanliness as I was imagining a hostel similar to those featured in the horror film Hostel. We dropped off our bags and headed back to the city center for one last brew in Trier. So refreshing. Sipping away slowly as my group bonded around the booth sharing stories, savoring the last hours we had in this beautiful city before moving onto Frankfurt in the morning.
